PROMYS (Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists) at Boston University is the parent program of PROMYS Europe at the University of Oxford, PROMYS India at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, and PROMYS Italia at the University of Padua.
This portal is for students and counselors applying to only. If you are applying to PROMYS India or PROMYS Europe, PROMYS India, or PROMYS Italia please visit the relevant program's website to access any applications that are currently open. You may only apply to one PROMYS program per year.

PROMYS will run from June 28 - August 8, 2026 at Boston University. Counselors will be expected to arrive on June 21, one week before the students.
Counselor applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting February 1. The deadline to apply is March 15 at 11:59 pm (EDT).

Eligibility: Applicants must have completed 9th grade by the start of PROMYS (June 28, 2026). All PROMYS participants must be at least 14 years old (but not older than 18), by the start of the program. Students who are already attending university are not eligible to apply. Required Application Components:
- Application form which includes five short answer questions about your personal experiences.
- Solutions (or attempted solutions) to the application problems – to be uploaded as a .pdf file and summarized in text boxes on the application form.
- School transcript – to be uploaded as a .pdf or jpeg file. An unofficial copy (e.g. a screenshot from your student portal) is acceptable.
- Teacher Recommendation from a math teacher or mentor. It is polite to ask your teacher for a recommendation as soon as possible. Once they have agreed to write on your behalf, fill out their information on the application form and click the "Send Request Now" button. You should request your recommendation well in advance of the application deadline, and follow up with them closer to the deadline. Don't wait until you're ready to submit the application form itself.
NEW AI POLICY for 2026: PROMYS is interested in your ideas, not in solutions that you have found elsewhere. The use of AI or other answers found on the internet is strictly prohibited. In order to ensure the originality of your exploration, PROMYS may interview applicants. Therefore, you should be confident in your own solutions and be able to explain your insights to us. Please keep any scratch work of your experimentation as you may be asked to demonstrate your approach to the solutions.
